Creative Connections

When it comes to the learning part, I think it’s safe to say that most of us know it’s not a one-size-fits-all topic. Many of us need a hands-on, messy and in the moment approach while others prefer a more linear or organized approach to learning. Some really enjoy digging deep into the details to truly understand something on completely different levels as others enjoy the social aspect of learning and seek group work. Simply put, there are so many different ways humans can learn and not every child grows at the same rate. In fact, many homeschooling families are drawn to the homeschool approach for this very reason - the ability to create the learning environment that fits their children best so they can truly thrive.

Our family has been homeschooling for about 6 years now and even we’ve tried all sorts of different learning approaches. It started with school at home, then deschooling, unschooling, eclectic, co-op’ing, Charlotte Mason, nature based, unit studies, mixed studies. . .you name it, we’ve tried it! No matter what we dug into, we always came back to simply needing the basics - natural learning opportunities and supportive spaces to practice our skills, especially with friends.

Then something awesome happened this summer. We were introduced to a curriculum known as KONOS. It’s a unit-style curriculum from the 80s that’s designed to teach multiple ages at the same time. It covers all sorts of subjects in a variety of ways, but our favorite part is how it focuses heavily on using educational materials and experiences as opportunities to help our children develop key character traits and skills that we all need to practice before taking on the challenges our world offers these days. It definitely lines up with what we’ve discovered on our own homeschooling journey as being the primary focus for what we want our children to learn - a strong foundation in integrity, emotional intelligence and compassion while developing personal responsibility, critical thinking abilities and strong problem solving skills.

After digging deep into the KONOS curriculum, researching even more homeschooling approaches, talking with other families, and reviewing our own homeschooling journey, something clicked. With it being so hard to find a group environment that meets our needs, what if we created an open container space that allows homeschooling families to come together and learn just like our children do - in the moment as life is happening!

Introducing our Creative Connections dream - space to create tons of opportunities for children of all ages to practice the skills they are learning at home regardless of where they are academically or what approach your family uses to learn. We’re thinking of opportunities for writing practice, math games, group project work, life skills, science labs, experiments, bible studies and so much more! All in fun, child-led, family focused and organic learning styles that help all of us achieve what we set out for from the beginning. . .an environment for our children to discover their purpose and to truly thrive!

Our goal is to setup twice weekly opportunities to share resources and activities with other local homeschooling families seeking the same things. We are still narrowing down a location for this community but hope to go live during the 2024/2025 winter! There will be several meetings and connection opportunities available beforehand to help us all get to know each other and develop the best environment for the needs of our homeschooling community. If you are interested in participating, contributing or being apart of what we are building, please add your name below so we can keep you in the loop! We will also be sending out info soon as to when our first parent’s meeting will be and you won’t want to miss it!!

To join any of our sessions, please create a free family membership account here to gain access to the event calendar and reserve your spot(s). Spaces are limited in many of the activities and your reservation helps us get an idea on what we can try to plan for.
