Frequently Asked Questions

. . . We Get It . . .
(: We’re Different & A Bit Confusing! :)

  • If we are being completely honest, we have no clue what these kids need to know in 20 years let alone what the world will even look like by then. But we do know they need to be capable of figuring it out when they get there – physically, mentally, and emotionally.

To get there, our kids need to work on developing their character traits as well as practicing essential life skills such as responsibility, communication, teamwork, perseverance, courage, loyalty, stewardship, honor, integrity, respect, time management, among many others. Each experience we offer is done to provide opportunities for practicing these traits and skills.

With also keeping our focus on supporting the family unit and deferring to parents as the authority, families are finally able to thrive in the group learning environment!

From family style chores and volunteering opportunities throughout the day, to partnering with other kids and working in multi-aged groups, we truly believe in growing the whole child!

  • With truly being a child-led environment that puts character development, life skills practice, and family as the priority, we are definitely different from other homeschooling co-ops.

We know that most homeschooling families already follow their own curriculum plan or already have access to other co-ops that teach typical educational subjects. That wheel already exists!

What’s missing is a space for kids to take what they are learning at home and apply it in a group setting in a real way with real life practice.

Our space allows kids to discover what their purpose is and give them plenty of time and opportunities to develop the skills needed for it. We also have plenty of room to make mistakes in supportive ways over and over until we get it!

Remember, we have no clue what our kids need to know in 20 years, but we do understand that they need to be capable of figuring it out when they get there – physically, mentally, and emotionally! That’s exactly what we are working hard to build and we would love to partner with your family!

  • We offer skill-level based classes to kids of all ages twice per week. Some are child-led/drop-in style and others have a bit more structure and offer instruction.

Classes include creative writing opportunities, engineering/robotics, life skills & lessons, science labs & experiments, career & business explorations, cooking & nutrition skills, and so much more as the sky is the limit with our approach to group learning.

  • With being a child-led environment, we are constantly engaging with our kids and challenging them with new skills and lessons as they show interest in new things.

One of the key features of our program is to facilitate an environment that uses our kids’ motivations to develop our learning opportunities. Naturally, as our children grow, so does our program. This is why it’s difficult for us to offer a strict schedule.

Instead, each year, we offer families up to 7 character trait themed sessions. One for Patience, another for Cooperation & Teamwork, and so on. Traits are usually picked by what’s needed in the environment or falls at an appropriate time during the year.

From there, each session runs 5-6 weeks long and offers families group learning time 2 days per week. Each day that a family is with us, children are offered up to 3 rounds of classes to choose from as they wish.

Schedules are emailed and posted the week before classes for families to signup for, but we also have enough flexibility to make changes the day of as long as space and materials are available.

  • We truly stand by creating a group learning environment that fits families instead of families trying to fit us. This is probably why it’s sometimes confusing :)

Families are free to join our space 1 or 2 days per week, purchase a whole session for better prices, or can even drop in on day passes as it fits their schedule. Families can also come for a whole day, or just stay for a couple of hours. Seriously, whatever works for your family.

We know that each family is a piece to the group learning environment puzzle and will bring along something our community needs. All we ask, is that when you are with us, you are present and helping where you can.

  • With our main focus being on supporting the family unit, deferring to parents as the authority as well as helping children develop their character traits/practice essential life skills, we need families to be together!

With not being a drop-off program, children get to see parents stepping up and leading by example to show them the way forward. Many of our parents use their acquired skills to help teach each other’s children as we go. It truly takes a village to raise children!

From family style chores and volunteering opportunities throughout the day, to having community meals prepared in our cooking classes and each family participating the environment, kids get to see what a thriving community looks like as well as reap the rewards of strong families coming together to help them grow.

  • Creative Connections Collective operates like a non-profit, but we didn’t get the official 501-c paperwork. We are not interested in all of that paperwork :) Instead, we do have an LLC business license to keep things separate.

Tuition is determined by looking at operating expenses, material costs, instructor fees, liability insurance policies, technical needs, etc. and then dividing it among families in the environment. It changes as the environment changes.

We also purchase materials at the start of a session and do what we can to repurpose/reuse what we can. This is often why it’s hard for us to offer refunds.

People are always welcome to volunteer time as well as offer donations to go towards what we are building.

We do everything we can to keep things as affordable as we can though since our reward truly comes from the community we build and all learning opportunities our children get from it.

  • Humans need connection and community. Not just for the social aspect, but to continue their learning, growth and development in all areas.

At home, they may be able to read about what it’s like to communicate with others and study all the different techniques on how to approach or solve problems; but for most kids, they need to practice it firsthand in a group environment over and over before they get any good at it.

We also need to interact with others in a variety of settings to be able to see things from a different perspective. The more perspectives and experiences they can get, the more they may be able to understand things too.

  • First of all, we are so excited to have you and your family join us!
